From where I’m standing – The Empathy Museum

Based in London, the empathy museum is billed as a traveling experimental museum which offers visitors an opportunity to foster a feeling of empathy. The Museum’s exhibit ‘ From where I’m standing’ offered visitors on-line and in-person, audio and photography portrait’s of the lives of 34 people during the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic. The individuals profiled included healthcare and shop works who had been asked to choose an object important to them during lockdown to talk about. The exhibition was presented both as a wholly digital experience on-line and as a in-person experience at two locations in London (Brixton & Peckham) where streets in the area hosted for-sale type boards with a photograph of a project contributor. The Museum describes its work as a series of ‘participatory art projects dedicated to helping us look at the world through other people’s eyes’. Their various installations and project frequently use a mix of physical objects and digital provision (typically audio, podcasts and photography) to create experiences for their visitors.
