Virtual Helsinki

Virtual Helsinki is billed as the digital twin of the Finish city. Launched in December 2021, it offers users the opportunity to take a virtual tour of Helsinki and visit some of its attractions. Using the app, users can also tour the city as it was in the early 20th century, enter a virtual store and purchase Finish design products (that can be posted to them). The digital platform has been funded by the Finish government with the aim of allowing various businesses and providers a digital way to offer their goods and services, including virtual events (such as concerns and trade shows) and opportunities to meet other users socially. The VR experience ”Virtual Helsinki – Sound of Seasons” allows users to take a trip through all the four seasons of the year, starting from the Senate Square (a famous Helsinki landmark) and continuing to the home of architect Alvar Aalto, the father of Nordic design ending with a view of the city skyline. Some of the digital tourism concept had been accelerated by the successful Mayday celebrations which had been broadcast as a digital event during 2020.
